The Wing perimeter of Airbus Research and Technology focuses on structural and industrial aspects, resulting in the Wing Of Tomorrow concepts and ground prototypes.

Improvements will be possible using "Disruptive Wing" technologies, concentrating on wing performance. To enable these technologies, a need has arisen with the Autonomy system which includes the Ground segment: ground control station, ground to air communication and the Air Segment: navigation, aircraft systems monitoring and controls (remote cockpit operations)

The Autonomy System Engineer (M/F) position is within the Airbus UpNext subsidiary in France. It consists of a fixed-term contract (CDI-C) on an estimated three-year long project.

Main missions

The job holder will work within the Autonomy Design team with the main responsibilities as below:

  • Define the autonomy architecture (with Overall System Design and Operations/Safety/certification specialists) including the specifications of the autonomy system (functional requirement (SRD, design requirements (SDD) and systems architectures);

  • Participate in autonomy-related systems selection and supplier relationships

  • Interface with autonomy-related systems, primary flight controls, flight test (FTI)

  • Follow up of termination system

  • Contribute to V&V elaboration

  • Support to system bench testing, aircraft ground test and flight test

The tasks may evolve during the course of the project, so being flexible is important.

Your Boarding Pass

  • Senior design engineer for aircraft systems

  • experience in avionic or aircraft systems development, system architecture and HMI background, ideally with some exposure to drones development or autonomy conversion.

  • Experience in system design requirements, system architecture elaboration, A/C systems integration and system testing are mandatory.

  • The candidate is also expected to interface directly with Suppliers

  • The candidate must have good skills in supplier management and a good understanding of A/C operations, systems safety and regulations.

  • Take initiatives to propose simpler and efficient ways of working

  • English is mandatory (strong duality with UK)

The successful candidate will be required to work very closely with the System Team as well as the Airframe teams. You should have good skills in collaborative work with a good understanding of interface management and practical problem solving.
