A vacancy for a "Frequency Manager for Telecom and Earth Observation Satellites (m/f)" has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Toulouse. You will join the Frequency Management Team. This Team is the Airbus Defence and Space transverse Center of Competence (CoC) supporting any wireless communications business by advising on the selection and use of the frequencies.

The Frequency Management Team is interacting with many other teams such as (but not limited to) Strategy, Innovation, Pre-sales, Marketing and Sales, bids, Programs, Service Delivery, Engineering, Operations and Customer Support.

You will be responsible for securing orbits and frequencies for space systems (Telecommunication satellites, Earth Observation satellites and scientific space systems), which are the first steps for any satellite Business to become reality.

This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.

Tasks & accountabilities:

In interaction with the main stakeholders of the various Program Lines of Airbus Defence and Space and under the supervision of experienced Experts, you will be in charge of the following activities:

1) Contribute to the relevant strategies and action plans about Frequency Management by:

  • Understanding the needs and objectives of the company in terms of technology, market and frequency challenges,
  • Analyzing and recommending the best spectrum/orbits options, de-risking and accompanying their implementation with the support of relevant stakeholders,
  • Anticipating and developing spectrum/orbits opportunities to support the positioning and growth of the Program Line businesses and products.

2) Develop and implement technical/regulatory actions to support space systems' sales, bids and tenders and secure appropriate orbit/frequency resources mainly by:

  • Handling the international process to access satellite orbit/frequency rights with the United Nations specialized agency (ITU-R) on behalf of Connected Intelligence (CI) and Space Systems Program Lines and their respective customers,
  • Monitoring in-orbit satellites and third party requests for orbit/frequency rights and sharing intelligence with programs, business development, innovation, marketing and sales,
  • Negotiating bilateral agreements with neighbouring satellite operators (frequency coordination) to prevent interference between systems once in operation.

This role will involve frequent travels for business worldwide and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • Educated to Engineering degree or equivalent in Telecommunication or a related discipline,
  • Knowledge of radio-communication system design, satellite link budgets and telecommunication simulation tools (e.g. Matlab) are expected,
  • Experience in frequency management for satellite systems (ITU filings, frequency coordination) would be an asset,
  • Customer-oriented mindset and determined to succeed/perseverance,
  • Reliability, autonomy and initiative, Team player,
  • At ease within a multi-national culture,
  • Able to influence,
  • Language Skills: negotiation level in French and English.
